The story of Die Port van Cleve begins more than 150 years ago, with a young brewer named Gerard Adriaan Heineken who met two clever businessmen, the Hulscher brothers. They had a great plan in mind, to open a beer house inside the brewery. After Heineken's approval, the Hulscher brothers embarked on this adventure and Die Port van Cleve was born....

The Story of Aeon
Aeon Plaza Hotels redefines hospitality.
Aeon Plaza Hotels embarked on a journey to redefine hospitality by intertwining Dutch heritage with contemporary design. Established in 1996, the company began with the stewardship of Hotel Die Port van Cleve, a historic establishment that had been welcoming guests since 1870. Under Aeon's guidance, the hotel not only preserved its rich legacy but also embraced modern luxury, culminating in its 150th anniversary in 2021. This milestone was honored with the esteemed Royal Warrant, recognizing its longstanding contribution to Dutch hospitality.
In 2003, Aeon expanded its vision with the acquisition of Dutch Design Hotel Artemis. Situated in the Riekerpolder business district, this hotel opened its doors in 2005, offering 256 rooms and a dynamic exhibition space that celebrated Dutch design. Its unique blend of business efficiency and artistic flair attracted a diverse clientele, from corporate travelers to design enthusiasts. The hotel was sold in 2024 and is now under new management.
The most recent chapter in Aeon's story unfolded in 2022 with the acquisition and transformation of Dutch Design Hotel Vondelpark. Located at the southern edge of Amsterdam's iconic Vondelpark, this 1915 building had previously served as the Kapittelhuis and Priesterhotel, providing residence to clergy members until 2000. Aeon's vision breathed new life into the property, resulting in a vibrant hotel that pays homage to Dutch design while offering modern comforts. The renovation was completed in 2023, introducing 42 uniquely designed rooms that reflect the company's commitment to innovation and cultural appreciation.
